As instructional designer, I mapped content from compliance documentation and medical coding process guides into a structured eLearning sequence.
I wrote all instructional content, designed interactive activities to reinforce coding decision logic, and developed the full course in Articulate 360. Subject matter expert review from a healthcare operations lead informed two rounds of content revisions.

A storyboard was developed prior to Articulate 360 development, mapping each slide’s instructional content, interaction type, and compliance-critical callouts.
The storyboard was reviewed by a healthcare operations subject matter expert to validate workflow accuracy and identify gaps in coding procedure coverage before full course development.
Requirements & Acceptance Criteria
Measuring learner understanding of systems, coding, and compliance requirements
Learning objectives specified measurable outcomes: learners should be able to identify the stages of the medical coding workflow, apply ICD-10 coding logic to a clinical scenario, and describe the compliance requirements governing coded documentation.
Assessment items were tied directly to these objectives, with an 80% passing threshold per section.
Analytics, Iteration, Outcomes & Next Steps
Refining coding scenarios and compliance terminology through review
Two iteration cycles were completed following SME and peer review. The first cycle refined the ICD-10 scenario activities to better reflect real-world coding complexity without exceeding the scope of entry-level competencies.
The second cycle added a glossary of key terms after learner feedback showed that abbreviations in the compliance section needed clearer definition.

I also learned how important it is to balance accuracy with clarity when designing training for complex workflows such as medical coding, documentation review, and enterprise systems compliance.
